Breaking: A Call on All Levels of Government to Intervene in the Ongoing land Crisis and Killings in Uhuezeoke Okpanku, by uburu community in Ebony state

The peace and security of citizens is a fundamental responsibility of every level of government. Today, we raise a solemn and urgent call to the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Enugu State Government, the Ebonyi State Government, and all relevant security agencies to swiftly and decisively intervene in the escalating crisis and killings in Uhuezeoke, Okpanku community, located in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State. The unprovoked and persistent attacks allegedly carried out by people from neighboring Uburu community in Ebonyi State have left trails of bloodshed, destruction, and trauma.
For far too long, the Uhuezeoke Okpanku community has suffered from repeated incursions into their ancestral land. These violent attacks have led to the loss of innocent lives, destruction of farmlands, displacement of families, and the general destabilization of peace in the area. The most recent episodes of violence have seen the killing of innocent citizens, many of whom were going about their daily activities. These acts not only threaten the peace and stability of Enugu State but also question the resolve of our authorities to protect the lives and properties of its citizens.
The people of Uhuezeoke Okpanku are peace-loving and have coexisted with neighboring communities for generations. However, their patience and tolerance must not be mistaken for weakness. It is the duty of government and the Nigerian state to step in now to de-escalate tensions and enforce law and order. Continued silence or slow response only fuels impunity and emboldens further aggression.
We call on:
The Federal Government of Nigeria, particularly the Presidency and the National Security Adviser, to treat this matter as a national emergency. The Nigerian Army and other federal security agencies must be deployed to the affected area to stop the killings and restore calm.
The Enugu State Government under the leadership of His Excellency Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, to urgently provide security reinforcement, relief materials to displaced victims, and initiate a robust investigation into the matter.
The Ebonyi State Government to call the people of Uburu to order. No community should harbor or tolerate acts of aggression toward its neighbors. True leadership is shown when communities are taught to live in peace and harmony, not in conquest or domination.
The National Boundary Commission and relevant authorities to step in and address any lingering boundary disputes which may be fueling this unrest. We must ensure that territorial misunderstandings do not result in bloodshed.
Security Agencies, especially the Police, DSS, Civil Defence, and the Nigerian Army, to increase their presence in the border communities of Enugu and Ebonyi States and ensure the safety of lives and property.
It is time for action. It is time for justice. It is time for peace. The cries of the people of Uhuezeoke Okpanku must not go unheard. History will not be kind to those who had the power to stop bloodshed but chose silence. We urge traditional rulers, civil society organizations, the media, and international human rights bodies to speak out and bring attention to this growing tragedy.
The government must rise to its responsibility now—before more lives are lost.
